How do I stop being so awkward and shy around guys?

I'm 16 and when I was younger I used to be scared of boys(I know it sounds pretty stupid but I was -.-) and I'm shy around people when I first meet them but once I get to know them I be myself. A few months ago, this guy at school admitted that he really liked me and I'm flattered by it but on our first date I felt like such an idiot and barely spoke and couldn't even look him in the eye. We talk all the time on skype and it fine because he isn't actually there but when he is I go all shy. I'm still amazed he likes me after all this time but I still act this stupid way. I try really hard not to but I always have to look away from him when he looks at me. Please help! :(
